To Begin crochet Make 12 Squares To start ; crochet a chain of 6 stitches and slip st to join into a ring 1st round: ch3 , and work dc 2 times , ch3, into the center ring *3dc, 3ch; repeat from * three more times , join with a slip st to the 3rd of the 3ch. 2nd round: now work 3 ch, 2dc, 2ch, 3dc all in first space, then 3dc, 2ch, 3dc in remaining 3 corners ( open ch 3 spaces). Join with a sl st to the 3rd of the first 3 ch. 3rd round: work as for the previous round, *(work 3 ch, 2dc, 2ch, 3dc all in first space, then 3dc, 2ch, 3dc )*with the next ch 3 open space work a group of 3dc in the center and ch 3 And work another corner Of *to* continue until done with round. 4th round: work as previous round( chain 3 and 7 dc in each corner then 3dc in the open chain areas without chains twice and 8 dc in the corners without chains. This completes one square. To begin poncho seam together crochet squares for example see below at picture and graph!! Starting all sizes by picking up 40 st pm(shoulder), Pick up 60 st pm(front), Pick up 40 st pm( shoulder), pick up last 60 st pm(back).
Top increases Join in the round Row 1 & 2 – knit all stitches in the round Row 3- Kf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left kf&f into last stitch(2 st increased), slip marker kf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left kf&b into last stitch, slip marker kf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left kf&b into last stitch, slip marker kf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left kf&b into last stitch, (8 stitches total increased) Repeat these three rows in the pattern until there is (180,200,220,240) st increased between the front pm and back pm. Poncho from pick up row will measure about 9in. Lower increases and belt holes Continue in the round Row 1-Knit Row 2- Kf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left kf&f into last stitch(2 st increased), slip marker kf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left kf&b into last stitch, slip marker kf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left kf&b into last stitch, slip marker kf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left kf&b into last stitch, (8 stitches total increased) Repeat rows 1&2 until piece measures about 13 in from pick up row. To start belt loop row each section will be worked one at a time: Row 1- Knit Row 2- pf&b into the first stitch knit until 1 st is left pf&f into last stitch(2 st increased) Repeat row 1&2 for a total of 8 rows. Cut yarn, slip marker and attach yarn at the beginning of next section and repeat three more times. On the last section do not cut yarn slip marker and proceed back into the round with row 1 (belt loops are finished). Repeat row Row 1&2 until piece measures 20 in from pick up row. To bind off (I used an i-cord bind off) Cast on 3 stitches, using the cable cast on. *Knit 2 st on the st k2tog (but you still have 3 st remaining) Slip the three worked stitches back onto the left hand needle. Then pull the working yarn tightly across the back of those 3 stitches* and repeat from * to *. To finish poncho weave in all ends and wet block to shape.
